about

Kick Down The Doors founder Paul Bedford (Bedderz) was born in Batley West Yorkshire, hailing from a traditional working class background, spending his early years living in a Council Estate in Howden Clough.

Hello…

Bedderz at your service! Music has always been a positive in my life, from my early years of listening to my Dads Kinks albums to Adam Ant, Madness & the Blues Brothers. However It was as a sixteen year old in 1988 when a friend played Wild flower by the Cult to me that changed my life. I quickly handed my mate a tape ‘Can you fill this with music like that?!’ I still have the tape which is filled with the Cult, Cure, Cramps, Iggy etc

The following year was my year zero, out of curiosity I watched the Great Rock n Roll Swindle movie on channel 4, having heard about the Sex Pistols, but knowing very little about their music or history. I was immediately taken by the Sex Pistols in a way that I’d never known before or since. In Steve Jones, not only was I blown away by his guitar playing, but there was something about his jack the lad, simple manner that I could relate to as opposed to Johnny Rottens more intellectual persona…. I quickly went out and bought a cheap white Les Paul copy …

Inspired, not long after I joined a band playing bass initially. Overtime I  began booking gigs, organizing, marketing for the bands I played in, securing opening slots with the UK Subs, GBH, 999, The Vibrators, The Damned, The Members, Captain Sensible & the Space Toad experience, Spunge etc

This experience surprisingly landed me a sales advisor job at the Yorkshire Post newspapers, which ended a 5 year run at a textile mill (A Rag Mill!!) in Morley West Yorkshire. Truly a rags to riches tale, depending on your definition of riches! Not bad at all for a working class tosser from Batley! I never looked back, within 3 years achieving a runner up award at the Newspaper Society awards, many accolades followed before I jumped into a more corporate b2b world. Importantly throughout I always kept up my passion for playing music.

A venture into local TV followed, working for the Made TV group in Leeds, the role was predominately sales, however using my initiative I secured unsigned musicians’ interviews & performances on the current affairs show. Within 12 months an offer to work for London Live TV was excitedly accepted! London Live TV brought many opportunities, It was the Rich Kids/Professionals gig in Islington that kick started a segment producer role at London Live. I contacted Paul Cook & Tom Spencer of Sex Pistols/Professionals fame, an interview was secured for Paul Cook & Glen Matlock to promote the Islington show. With my ear to the ground on the London Alternative/Punk rock scene I became a regular provider of high-quality guests to the current affairs team. From Dave Vanian of The Damned to Frank Turner, and from author & fashion icon Jordan Mooney to Ex Slits Tessie Pollitt & Hollie Cook.

Following a successful 4 years at London Live TV, a short stint as Brand Ambassador for a music pr company came about, the natural progression from this was to create a platform that would concentrate solely on the music I love, that platform being Kick down the doors PR! Named after the Professionals song. I have the utmost dedication to the Alt Rock/Alt Pop/Ska/Punk Rock/Indie scene, my drive and passion knows no bounds and I will open up doors for you.

I live in Beckenham, and I love it here, it’s got a cool vibe and is steeped in rock n roll history with Bowie & Ronson living and creating ‘Ziggy’ here. Although a proud Yorkshireman, I consider home to be here. I continue to play and produce music in my band Prisoners of Mother England, and my other main passion is playing football, even though my legs/feet are trying to tell me something.

I wear the t shirt, go to the gigs, buy the music, I am first and foremost a fan, I will Kick down the doors ….
